About Ancillary Systems

Marine Electricals offers internal communication system on board a ship comprising of the critical components including the Automatic Telephone System (ATS), the Self Powered Telephone System (SPT), the Public Address-General Alarm System, the Sound Reception System and the Talk-Back System. These systems collectively contribute to a well-integrated and secure communication network on board.

Addressable Flood Alarm System (AFAS)

The Indian Navy approved Addressable Flood Alarm System (AFAS) is designed to detect flooding on board a ship and provide audio and visual alarms. The system comprises of sensors located at potential.

Flood positions, Data Acquisition (DAQ) Modules to capture the state of each sensor and pass it onto Main Control Panel (MCP) and Repeater Panels (RP). The sensors are addressable for ease of identifying a flood location from the control panel.

Features:

  • Marine approved IP67/68 Flood sensor with optional intrinsic safe sensor for explosive area
  • Addressable Flood Alarm System (AFAS) compatible for any 4-20 mA and Digital sensor (No/NC)
  • Military Standard Main Control Panel (MCP) & Repeater Panel (RP)

Technical Specifications:

  • EED-50-25 compliant
  • JSS 5555 adherence
  • MIL461 E/F compliant

Wind Speed & Direction System

The Indian Navy Approved Wind Speed and Direction System (WSDS) is designed to assess relative wind speed and direction by employing a specialized, robust ultrasonic wind sensor. The Wind Sensor data, in conjunction with information from the Gyro, Log, and GPS, is integrated into the Meteorological Interface Unit (MIU). This MIU not only facilitates the consolidation of wind data but also shares this information with other systems installed on board the ship in a serial RS422/485 NMEA format.

Features:

  • HMI to suit requirement of customer
  • Redundancy in True wind calculation (Both option available using “GPS” or “Gyro and Log”
  • Compatible to any RS 422 & RS 485 Wind Sensor
  • The Multi Function Color Repeaters (MFCR) displays the following information:
    • (a) Relative Wind Speed & Direction
    • (b) True Wind Speed & Direction
    • (c) Relative Wind Direction (On a circular dial)
    • (d) Ship’s Course Made Good (CMG) as received from GPS
    • (e) Ship’s Speed Over Ground (SOG) as received from GPS

  • Maintenance free and Class approved Utrasonic wind sensor
  • Environment & Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) compliance sensor as per Military Std IEC 60945
  • Ultrasonic Wind Sensor available in IP 66/67 and in standard & optional heated models (for freezing weather conditions
  • Wind Speed & Direction System available in both Military and Non Military Grade options
  • Redundancy in True wind calculation (Both option available) using ‘GPS’or ‘Gyro & Log’)

All Weather Observation System (AWOS)

Our Navy-approved All-Weather Observation System (AWOS) is designed to provide comprehensive meteorological data for maritime applications. It utilizes integrated weather sensors or individual sensors tailored to meet user-specific requirements. The system measures various parameters, including relative wind speed and direction, pressure, humidity, and temperature, including dew point temperature. Additionally, visibility and ceilometer sensors can be seamlessly integrated into the AWOS setup.

Features:

  • Sensor Capabilities: Measures Relative Wind Speed & Direction, Provides True Wind Speed & Direction, Displays Relative Wind Direction on a circular dial and Offers Pressure Information.
  • Meteorological Interface Unit (MIU): Interfaces sensor inputs, along with data from Gyro, Log & GPS. Also forwards data to Multi-Function Color Repeaters (MFCR) and Interface Unit for distribution to various onboard systems.
  • Multi-Function Color Repeaters (MFCR) Displays: Presents critical information such as: Relative Wind Speed & Direction, True Wind Speed & Direction, Relative Wind Direction (On a circular dial), Pressure Information.
  • Data Distribution: Distributes wind data or any relevant information to other ship systems through Repeater Panels using RS 422/485 serial National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) format, customized for ship-specific needs.

  • Ceilometer Sensor Information: Graphically represented on a separate 17″ PPC for enhanced visibility.
  • Temperature Sensor: Equipped with a radiation shield for accurate temperature measurements.
  • Redundancy Features: Dual options for True Wind calculation using ‘GPS’ or ‘Gyro & Log,’ ensuring system reliability.
  • Compatibility: Compatible with any RS 422 & RS 485 sensor, providing a versatile interface for input and output.
  • Ultrasonic Wind Sensor Options: Available in IP 66/67 and in standard & optional heated models, suitable for freezing weather conditions.

Technical Specifications:

  • Maintenance-free and class-approved Ultrasonic Wind Sensor.
  • Complies with environmental and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards as per marine Std IEC 60945.

Data Distribution Unit (DDU)

The Indigenous Data Distribution Unit (DDU) is designed to fulfill the distribution needs of Ring Laser Gyros (RLGs) data for the Indian Navy, ensuring seamless delivery to ship users. This unit not only oversees the health status of two Ring Laser Gyros (RLGs) but also intelligently selects the output from properly aligned and healthy RLGs. In the event of a failure in one RLG, the DDU smoothly transitions to an alternate healthy Ring Laser Gyro (RLG). For user convenience, a Multi Media Interface (MMI) is incorporated to provide real-time status updates on Ring Laser Gyros (RLGs), including any alarms, and allows manual selection of a specific RLG if needed.

Features:

  • Technological complexity of innovation in design of DDU was on account of uncertainty of ICD (Interface Control Document) since user equipment details are never available in totality for new construction ships, when the DDU is to be designed. Likewise there is a need to upgrade the DDU on existing ships as and when a new user equipment is added or old one replaced.
  • Marine Electrical DDU has been approved by IHQ, MoD(N) and DQAN as an indigenous product for all IN ships.
  • The DDU is designed strictly following process approach in conformance with SEI CMM standards and ISO 9001 QMS. The product meets stringent JSS 55555 environment and MIL 461 for EMIC specifications. Ergonomic design meets ease of assembly, operation and maintenance.
  • Based on IHQ approval, DDUs have been supplied for 10 IN ships while orders for another 15 are in progress.. This has immensely benefitted Indian Navy in seamless introduction of new equipment and systems for interface with Inertial Navigation Systems.

Technical Specifications:

  • Conforming to MIL / JSS 5555 environmental and EMI/C standards
  • Audio / Visual alarm for RLG failure
  • Up to 120 serial (RS422/485) & 4 Ethernet interfaces
  • Auto, Manual, Simulation & Maintenance Mode
  • UPS for uninterrupted Power Supply
  • Synchro output (optional)

Auto Transfer Switch (ATS)

Marine Electricals offers both electro-mechanical and solid state change over switches. Solid state SCR or, MOSFET based changeover switches guarantee less than 20mS transition time as stipulated in the Indian Navy specifications.

Features:

  • Modular Design
  • Reliability: Designed for high reliability, ATS ensures uninterrupted power supply by quickly and efficiently switching between power sources
